Internships
Mitchell Lake Audubon Center participates in the Federal Work Study Partnership Program through Texas A&M University - San Antonio and the Alamo Community Colleges to provide paid internships via the university in the areas of Conservation, Education, and Marketing. Please contact the Experiential Learning Center at your school or university to see if you qualify.
We provide internships for university credit on a case-by-case basis. The student is responsible for coordinating with their university. Contact the center at MLAC@audubon.org with the email subject "Internship for Credit" if interested.

Seasonal Site Host
Are you interested in Camp Hosting at Mitchell Lake Audubon Center? This season, this year or sometime further down the road, Mitchell Lake needs your help and welcomes RVer’s willing to work.
Mitchell Lake Audubon Center is a 1,200-acre wildlife refuge located in south San Antonio, TX. The property is owned by the local water utility, San Antonio Water System (SAWS), and managed by the National Audubon Society. The historic Leeper House serves as its visitor center, with a small education pavilion on the property. The site includes 7.5 miles of both walking and/or driving trails. The center and the surrounding grounds are open year-round and attracts visitors from all over the world. Being a part of the Audubon team means making a difference for conservation. The Site Host position at Mitchell Lake Audubon Center is a part-time, seasonal position assisting with essential opening, end of day, and after hours functions related to guest safety, facility support, and security. Site Hosts support the center and staff in a multitude of ways, including by ensuring all visitors have left the property at the close of business hours and securing the gates and parking lot.
Site Hosts at Mitchell Lake have the opportunity to apply for a three (3) month minimum to six (6) month maximum contract. Hosts are expected to work of 5 – 10 paid hours per week, per person and approximately thirty (30) volunteer hours are highly recommended in the areas of education, resource management, and/or maintenance. Volunteer hours my be split if two individuals Host together in one (1) RV. Hosts may work additional hours if desired and if needed by the center, but more than ten (10) paid hours is not required.
