Join us for a day filled with opportunities for getting your City Nature Challenge Observations in! There is nature all around us, even in our cities! Bring your smartphone and help us participate in the City Nature Challenge Community Science Event and document the species here at Mitchell Lake.
Beginner Bird Walk: 8:00-10:00am
Start the day with our Beginner Bird Walk! All photos and audio recordings during this walk uploaded to iNaturalist count towards the City Nature Challenge to help San Antonio keep our National Champions Title! Register here for the bird walk.
Aquatic Macroinvertebrate Bioblitz: 2:00 – 4:00pm
Guests can drop in during this time to assist with exploring through water samples pulled from Edward’s Tank. We’ll document and identify aquatic creatures and plants in the sample.
After Hours Sunset Exploration: 4:00 – 7:30pm
Explore our trails on your own after hours to document species that you don’t often see awake during the day!
UV Light Nocturnal Insect Survey: 8:00 – 9:30pm
Survey the moths and other insects that are attracted to our UV Light Stations and use handheld UV lights to explore the ground for more nocturnal species.
