Join us for a day filled with opportunities for getting your City Nature Challenge Observations in! There is nature all around us, even in our cities! Bring your smartphone and help us participate in the City Nature Challenge Community Science Event and document the species here at Mitchell Lake.
Guided Bird Tour: 8:00am
Join our regularly scheduled Guided Bird Tour to see at least 30-50 different bird species with our expert guide. Take photos to add birds seen to iNaturalist! Travelling by both car and by foot to access as many areas as possible, this tour is best suited for the birder age 15+ as it can last up to four hours, though you may leave at any time. Aquatic Macroinvertebrate Bioblitz: 4:00 – 6:00pm
Guests can drop in during this time to assist with exploring through water samples pulled from Edward’s Tank. We’ll document and identify aquatic creatures and plants in the sample.
After Hours Sunset Exploration: 4:00 – 7:30pm
Explore our trails after hours to document species that you don’t often see awake during the day!
UV Light Nocturnal Insect Survey: 8:00 – 9:30pm
Survey the moths and other insects that are attracted to our UV Light Stations and use handheld UV lights to explore the ground for more nocturnal species.
